Why I Should Take an Internship?

Before understanding the necessity of taking an internship, we should understand what is an internship ?

An internship may be a short-term opportunity offered by organizations to students and graduates to realize work experience. As an intern you must spend a period of your time (ranging from every week to few months). In short, an internship may be a mechanism to bridge the gap between what's taught in classrooms and what industries search for in students.

1. Application of education and career exploration:

Internships are an excellent way to apply the knowledge from the classroom to real-world experience. Learning is one thing, but taking those skills into the workforce and applying them may be a good way to explore different career paths and specializations that suit individual interests.

2. Professionalism:

Internships can provide students with the soft skills needed within the workplace and in leadership positions. In a LinkedIn Skills Report ,many professionals of rated soft skills as being more important than technical skills. Skills, like communication, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork can all be learned through an internship and utilized beyond in many places.

3. Learn from others:

It’d seem common sense – you’re interning to find out skills, in the end – but don’t forget to purposefully observe others in their job role to find out the ins and outs of various positions. Consider asking your supervisor if you'll shadow them for each day, together with people in your department. Ask to take a seat in on department wide meetings also. Act sort of a sponge and take in all the knowledge you'll during your internship – it'll benefit you at the end of the day.

4. Figure out what you like and don’t like:

While everyone probably wants to steer faraway from an internship feeling excited and keen about the experience, there’s a silver-lining to be found if you didn’t enjoy the job: you’ll know what you don’t like. “Figuring out what kind of job you don’t want while you’re interning can help prevent you from accepting an ill-fitting job once you graduate.”

5. Networking:

Having an internship benefits you within the working environment, and it also builds your professional network, there's an excellent chance of securing employment by connecting with people, so networking is critical. Internships provide an excellent environment to satisfy professionals within the career field you would like to pursue, also as other interns who have similar interests.

To sum up major objectives of internships are:
  • Gain experience

  • Explore your career options

  • Pick up industry-relevant skills

  • Land your dream job

Don’t let the pandemic dampen your enthusiasm, do something creative which adds value in your life and career. Start doing internships to gain extra knowledge and exposure to the real world, do something which matters the most for your successful career ahead.
